We know that getting accepted to any top business school is a great achievement and by no means an easy feat. However, acceptance is just the first, albeit major, piece in the puzzle to actually studying at IE. There are a host of other issues to be dealt with: immigration, housing, Spanish language etc.
IE’s Student Office is here to help you with all these things, making your life easier, especially at the beginning of what can be a daunting experience.
Student Visa
The Student Office will guide you through the process of obtaining a student visa for your studies at IE, and also help your family if they are coming to Spain with you. Obviously not all students will require a students visa, but if nationals from your country do, then the Student Office, with its years of experience, will strive to making the process run smoothly for you.
Student Permit
This permit is essentially a Spanish Identity Card which you will use whilst in Spain as proof of Identity and also as evidence that you are a student with a valid visa. Once again, the Student Office will manage your application, and that of your family.
Resident’s Permit
If you are a national from a European Economic Area Country, or are Swiss, and will be in Spain for more than three months, you must apply for a Spanish Residency Permit which has a validity of 5 years.
The student office will manage your application for this ID card and are also able to manage your partner’s application (as long as they too fulfil the above requirements) and that of your family (whether they fulfil the above requirements or not).
Finding accommodation can be a difficult and time consuming task. The Students Office has developed an extensive database of available housing. Whilst the school does not guarantee the standard of the accommodation, it does provide a valuable resource as the database itself is searchable and many of the properties are offered under favourable circumstances (often not requiring a guarantor for example, usually a significant obstacle when searching for accommodation in Madrid). If you prefer to share, there is also a housing forum for you to get in touch with other students looking for a flatmate. All these tools and some other recommendations are available on Campus Online once you have been enrolled at IE.
Settling into to a new environment and studying a Master program is not always easy. However, what is often overlooked is the transition faced by students’ partners and family- accompanying a loved one on their Master studies is a great challenge in itself. The IE Partner’s Club works to make this transition easier for those accompanying IE students on the next step in their careers, and helps them to get the most out of the experience too, with family members developing a lasting circle of friends and a network that often lasts a lifetime.
The club has been running for several years now, offering such activities as wine tasting, conferences, and outings; as well as academic activities like cross-cultural and coaching seminars, as well as more family oriented events such as the IE Christmas Dinner and cultural outings. IE’s Partners’ Club strives to help both adults and children alike get the most out of the IE Experience.
